Before Baby & Beyond
Grinnell Regional Medical Center’s Before Baby and Beyond Program is designed to help you answer the common questions of expecting parents. New Babies

Nine months and counting…
All expectant parents will be contacted approximately six weeks before their due date by the Kintzinger Women’s Health Center care coordinator to enroll them in the Before Baby and Beyond Program. At this time the care coordinator will help you:

  • Pre-register for hospital admission and help you with your insurance company pre-certification if required.
  • Plan your labor and delivery.
  • Receive pre and postnatal educational counseling, including tips on the signs and symptoms of labor, what to do at the end stages of pregnancy, and the difference between false and true labor.
  • Find available community resources, like WIC (special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants, and children), Title XIX, Mother-Child Wellness Program, and Family Connections.
  • Arrange a tour of the Kintzinger Women’s Health Center.
  • Answer any questions you may have.
  • Some parents may be referred to the program earlier by their physician if they are having complications or would like extra guidance throughout their pregnancy.

You’re home but you still have questions...
Your questions and concerns do not stop once your baby is born—in fact they will probably double. That is why the care coordinator of the Before Baby and Beyond Program contacts all new families after they are home to see how they are doing. You may also choose to have a home visit by the care coordinator or home health nurse.

Common concerns the care coordinator can help you with are:

  • Breastfeeding.
  • Baby care.
  • Mother care.
  • Post-partum depression and problems.
  • Fatigue.
  • Birth control.
  • Breast pump rental and purchase program.

If you would like additional information on this program, please call the care coordinator at 641-236-2326 or the Kintzinger Women’s Health Center at 641-236-2324.
