The goal of physical therapy is to help people perform daily functions with more ease and comfort. The physical therapy department at GRMC offers a wide range of treatments and services that further rehabilitate or helps restore individuals and improve strength, mobility, flexibility, and pain control.
Depending on the individual’s needs, one of GRMC’s physical therapists will work with you to develop a personal program to best meet your goals. Whether you are suffering from chronic pain or recovering from orthopedic surgery, you may benefit from GRMC’s physical therapy services.

Treatments and services available at GRMC’s Physical Therapy department include:
- Aquatic Therapy: Water exercise program that lessens physical stress on joints and bones from chronic pain and arthritis.
- Body Mechanics Education: Program that teaches individuals proper lifting and posture.
- Craniosacral Therapy: Program that treats spinal and fascial (connective tissue) dysfunctions as well as headaches.
- Foot Orthotics: Service that provides custom-made shoe inserts for flat feet.
- DSM Prosthetic Clinic: Offsite service that makes and adjusts custom braces and shoes.
- Hydrotherapy: Program that promotes the healing of wounds, such as burns and ulcers, through the use of whirlpools.
- Key Functional Capacity Assessments: Service that measures a person’s capacity to return to work after an injury.
- Key Job Placement Assessments: Services that objectively measures a person’s ability to perform functions safely.
- Nursing Home and Home Health Visits: Service that enables on-site treatments.
- Sports Medicine: Program that helps athletes prevent injuries and return to participation.
- Swiss Ball: Therapy program that increases strength, flexibility, and spinal stability.
- TENS: Pain control program.
- Visceral Manipulation: Program that releases tensile forces throughout the body including muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissue.
- Women’s Health: Program that treats disease specific to women, such as incontinence, pelvic pain, and back pain during labor.
- Work Hardening: Program that increases physical fitness so an individual can return to work.
Physical therapy services are provided to clients with a physician order and under the care of a physician. Services are provided for the patients’ convenience in
- the first floor of GRMC, 210 4th Avenue, and aquatic classes are in the Paul W. Ahrens Fitness and Rehab Center, Grinnell;
- the Deer Creek Wellness and Rehab Center, Deer Creek Health Center, 401 First Avenue, Toledo;
- homes of clients through Grinnell Regional Home Care.
